Update on WWE Changing the Survivor Series PPV and More
By Marc Middleton on March 21, 2010- Edge vs. Chris Jericho and CM Punk vs. Rey Mysterio in a Tennessee Street Fight is advertised for the SmackDown live event on May 1st in Knoxville, Tennessee.
- While WWE still had the Survivor Series listed on their 2010 pay-per-view calendar, a new Variety article on WWE pay-per-view business confirms that WWE will be “re-tooling” the concept this year because of “eroding sales.”
Regarding the Survivor Series changes, a WWE spokesman said, “If something gets tired or old, it’s something we have to look at. It’s just like any entertainment property. It’s crucial to continue to reinvent yourself. WWE fans will tell you right away if they like it or don’t like it and if it’s something they don’t want, we don’t do it again.”

Oh God. NOT Survivor Series! For crying out loud, WWE, leave **** alone! Screw these bullshit gimmick pay-per-views, screw the PG and screw Cena even being in the WWE!

God some people need to stop bitching and understand that the WWE has changed, it is NOT the same product it once was. I don’t understand why people who are unhappy continue to watch?

The lousy buy rate of SS09 had nothing to do with the concept of the PPV, but the pi$$-poor way in which the World Title matches were promoted.

I agree, Survivor Series has been a long standing tradition for generations and to see them toss that away like garbage is an absolute disgrace. Don’t blame the PPV, blame the way that WWE booked it, seriously you book your WWE Championship match around hornswoggle and seriousy expected people to buy the PPV? Seriously.

Bring back the King of the Ring….

i dont’ even know why they call it survivor series anymore. they haven’t done any kind of 4 way matches with the survivors moving on in ages. that’s what made that ppv fun. seeing 4 man tag teams that were thrown together and then the winners went on to another match that night. great concept but the last 10 years or so have failed miserably

Survivor Series has suffered from bad booking the last few years but it has also suffered because of its place in the calender. It may have been 08 or 07 but I remember the WWE having three PPV’s within 2 months…it’s too much. The fact that WWE never focuses on building the Survivor matches doesn’t help either. They need to build them up rather then chuck stars together casually.
BTW Mabry, I’m surprised and somewhat disappointed that WWE have opted not to bring back KOTR, it was a great concept which considering all the PPV name changes, the WWE seem to love as of late. Honestly, I haven’t minded most except MITB which for me, has become a stable of Mania. It wouldn’t be special as it’s own PPV. I can’t understand why WWE are not bringing something great back like KOTR and choosing to create something which is ultimately destroying the unique quality about a particular match. Just Strange.

Part of the reason Survivor Series 09 failed was because they had Bragging Rights come immediately before it. I mean we just saw a 7 on 7 match, why would we want to see a 5 on 5 at the next ppv?

We like Survivor Series, we DON’T like the story-lines leading into the PPV or the wrestlers involved.

If they are going to re-tool Survivor Series….how about making the main event War Games? I know Vince doesn’t like messing with ideas that weren’t his…BUT come on War Games has to be resurrected.

i like survivor series every year, they should get back to the traditional survivor matches with one group against another. and no one will ever forget survivor series 1997

Maybe they should cut down to 8 PPVs a year because I think part of the problem is having them once a month makes them kind of stale. I still watch all of them and that’s just what I think in general.

I thinks its a shame if they really go ahead and change Survivor Series. WWE should really go back to like it used to be. 4 on 4 elimination style, and whoever is left standing is the sole survivior.
