WWE Spokesman on the Low RAW Rating, Edge Note, Eddie Guerrero Searches

Posted by Marc Middleton on Sunday, October 4th, 2009

- After the Decade of SmackDown special aired this past Friday night, Eddie Guerrero was #26 on the Google Trends search list. Also, the phrase “how did Eddie Guerrero die” was #36.

- Edge and Eve Torres will be in Australia from November 11th until the 16th to do promotional work for WWE’s tour of Australia in 2010.

- The New York Post noted this week that this past Monday’s 3.1 rating for WWE RAW was the lowest since last November. While the paper blamed it on Al Sharpton, WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman blamed the low rating on football. He said: “Yes we were low, but Monday Night Football really had a lot to do with it.”

Of course he blamed it on football. What’s he going to say, “this whole guest host thing sux, the product blows, and Vince is an idiot”. Monday night RAW is unwatchable, between the “Guest Host” crap, SUPER Cena, always comin close to death, and comin back to kickin ass, the lovely PG rating, I could go on and on. It’s just awful.

Hey Jon, last week’s Monday Night Football game was the most watched show on Television that night, period. Its rating was higher than every other show on the air in that time slot combined.
It’s hard for the WWE to compete with football, but with all the commercial breaks football has, I’m suprised people didn’t switch between the two.
I know that most people don’t like the guest hosts, but some have been good, where as Sharpton was better than Cederic the Entertainer.
As far as Cena is concerned, I’ve never liked him as a wrestler. Mind you, he does have good microphone skills, but his wrestling skill is minimal.
The PG rating can be bent at times, but I remember back in the early 90′s and the attitude era with stuff DX did.
There’s something people need to understand. Wrestling is a business, to sell the business it needs to be entertaining and not overly offensive. So, the PG-ish rating attracts more viewers, which sells more ads, which earns them more money.
If you really have that big of a problem with a show that’s supposed to be entertaining, and you don’t find it as such, turn the channel and don’t complain.

It’s true that MNF is getting more viewers than anything else monday nights, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. However, I also think that Raw in and of itself is a flawed, bad product. There’s far too much emphasis on unentertaining skits and pointless drama for the sake of drama. Adding uninteresting and definitely unentertaining celebrities in a blatantly desperate attempt to attract higher ratings doesn’t help, and lowers what little value the show has, which is a shame, as there are still a lot of talented performers, even though a few individuals get the spotlight week after week *coughcenatriplehcough*.

However, given that this is a wrestling fan site, and the fact that comments are enabled on all these stories, it would seem to me that some discussion at least is encouraged. So Denz, if you really have that big of a problem with someone expressing their opinion here, find a different site and don’t complain.

Whats the point in having guest hosts when no one that has hosted RAW has been popular or even well known? I mean AL who?
