WWE Moves the 2010 Royal Rumble PPV Date

Posted by Marc Middleton on Friday, September 11th, 2009

- WWE has moved the 2010 Royal Rumble pay-per-view to January 31st. The show was scheduled for January 24th which would have put it up against the NFL AFC or NFC Championship game. Apparently, WWE scheduled the Royal Rumble without knowing that the NFL would be running a championship game that night, and made the move when they became aware of it.

WWE’s website and The Philips Arena website have both confirmed the change, noting that tickets originally purchased are still good. Ticketmaster is still listing the event as the 24th and selling tickets for it but that will likely be fixed soon.

I always hate it when competeing products and networks put big time shows head-to-head. I never exactly understood this, other than for the winner to have bragging rights. Thank you WWE for being smart and knowing the market would at least be split between watching your product or the NFL’s (and considering the NFL’s was going to be free…… yeah). Moving the date so fans don’t have to “choose” which they’d rather watch, but watch both, is a fantastic move all around. Good job, WWE.
