Vince McMahon Comments on Chris Benoit/WWE

Posted by Marc Middleton on Friday, September 11th, 2009

- WWE’s “Untold History” magazine features comments from Chairman Vince McMahon prior to each segment of WWE’s timeline. Regarding the Chris Benoit situation and whether he can be acknowledged as part of WWE history, McMahon says:

“It’s not right to pretend he didn’t exist. It’s one thing to include him as part of a historical perspective, which I believe is OK, and it’s another thing to promote him, which is not OK. The situation is very similar to that of O.J. Simpson – despite his controversy, O.J. was still a part of the NFL scene. You can’t deny that he existed.”

I agree about promoting his image and such but I also personally believe that past matches should be included on dvd’s….and not just ppv’s but even other worker’s compilation/best of dvd’s. It takes two to have a great match after all. I’m glad Vince realizes you can’t erase history.

Maybe now they will finally include his matches on DVDs etc. You can’t pretend the man didn’t exist.

Good, so maybe if they release a Royal Rumble package, they’ll have his win, and Wrestlemaina too. I remember on their site when they said what was the best Royal Rumble, they didnt include the year he won.

Making a Benoit dvd would be promoting him. An after the horrible act he commited you just can’t do that. It doesn’t matter if people consider him a legend and I personally don’t but that is besides the point.

Yeah, not only would a DVD be promoting him, but they’d almost have to mention “why” his career was cut short. Would make for an awkward moment, don’t you think?

Not to mention they already made a Benoit DVD – Hard Knocks.

And yes, it would be a very awkward ending, haha.

It is an interesting situation because at the same time of showing he existed by releasing footage of his matches, you kind of promote him.

Should be interesting how this plays out.

If it’s a match compilation dvd only then it doesn’t have to be mentioned. However, it is a bad idea no matter what. Anybody who thinks a Benoit dvd is a good thing is a complete moron.

I was wondering what he was going to do with in the Monday Night Wars “The Beginning” when they get to the Horsemen segments that include Benoit… I hope they show them
