[Site Notice] Wrestling-Edge.com Inaccessible Due To Malware Notice

Posted by W-E on Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

All,

Yesterday I and many of you were receiving a notice when trying to access http://www.wrestling-edge.com that the Website contained a security risk with Malware.

After investigating I found that one particular advertiser had been running these through their ad serving campaigns and all traces of their code have now been removed from Wrestling-Edge.com, and they have also been reported for serving these type of malicious ads.

I apologize for any inconvenience this caused and Google have now removed the site risk notification after verifying the site is ‘clean’.

Unfortunately by using advertisers there is always a slight risk this type of thing can happen, and I guess it was a good thing it did, so I could find and remove the culprit. If anyone has any questions or encounters this type of thing in future, do not hesitate to contact me at amish.patel@wrestling-edge.com.

Thank you.

I have been having issues where I cant open multiple links for news or the site will time out for a few hours. I have been having this issue for almost a month now and it only happens with this site.

    Hi Ray,

That’s an odd error. I would imagine if the site timed out, it should do trying to access it at all, not only when you try to open multiple links. Can you elaborate a bit more?

Hi, that is probably correct because it coincides with the amount of time I have been using the advertiser in question. It should hopefully have gone now?

    @kiki

Are you watching me or something? lol j/k
Seriously though, I’m not ashamed to admit that.

That aside, I clear my cookies on a daily basis and the day in question that my computer was attacked I only had this site and Facebook opened.

I can confirm that the news refuse to open in a new window.
I’m using Chrome 4 beta and when i try to open a link in a new window with the middle mouse button, the link acts as if it’s pressed with the left button and just opens it.

silenttoxic – Sorry for the problem and I don’t blame you if you reported the issue to Google, I would have probably done the same.

We don’t condone malware or any kind of malicious software. We have been open near 10 years now, and this is the first case of this ever happening on W-E. All I can do is apologise and reiterate that we will be taking stronger steps to ensure this won’t happen again. Unfortunately however, it is does to be an issue right now. I was reading a lot of blogs and forums today and many Webmasters are facing the same issues and not knowing which advertisers are hosting these spyware advertisers – luckily I was able to track it down to the culprit.

Regarding the links and new windows, I’m totally confused on that. I use Google Chrome — if I click to open in a new tab, it does. If I click a link to open in a new window, it does. I’ve tested it several times on different pages.

Good thing to know it wasn’t only me it was happening to. At least it’s done and over with.

Hopefully it won’t happen again but if it does I know what the reason is & have faith that Amish will have it taken care of asap.

I’m glad it came back up, I tried to find another Wrestling News site while it was down and they all have horrible lay outs.
W-E is simple and does what I want.

I’m honestly just amazed at how many people are complaining about Amish, and W-E, when it was a third party advertiser who caused the problem. Amish needs to get some money to run this site, so he has to trust that his advertisers, are not going to screw with his site users. Either that or turn W-E.com into a pay site.. which in the wrestling news website niche isn’t an option. people would just go to a competitor site.

ramg – when did you e-mail me? I reply to all visitor e-mails. If you can check through your sent items and let me know and I can check. I did receive a few queries about it, and replied to them.

I emailed you on 12/2/2009 at 5:26 to you and marc. I never got a response.

Keith… but what they report are found on other sites. They copy and paste info.

ramg. Of course they do. that’s how the media works. one outlet breaks a story, and all the other news outlets follow it up.

There’s no wrestling news sites that post 100% original content, that get the kind of traffic that W-E does, because W-E is reporting all the news people want to know about. As are all the other sites who they copy and paste from, and who copy and paste from them when they have an “exclusive”. So if they started charging, all they’d do is alienate most of the visitors.

ramg – if you don’t like it, don’t visit. It’s that simple. It’s how the game works, as Keith has described. Also, we NEVER copy/paste info, we re-write work and credit sources where applicable. We cover news from ALL the wrestling source outlets and have paid subscriptions to exclusive newsletters etc. so you get that kind of content for free, without having to pay the prices and be bombed with a million popups. I understand you’re upset, but what you’re now saying is just plain stupid.

FYI, if your name is Luis Miguel Ramos – I did receive an e-mail on 12/3 and it was replied to.

I did notice a few problems but assumed it was AVG being daft. Glad to see it has now been sorted and cheers for sorting it out Amish.
