Past Names Scheduled For 900th Raw, WWE’s Talent Death Clause, Khali Celebrates Birthday

Posted by Daniel Pena on Friday, August 27th, 2010

– As noted earlier, WWE Superstars from both Raw and SmackDown will be on hand for the record-breaking 900th edition of the longest running, weekly episodic television program in history: Monday Night Raw. According to a report on www.f4wonline.com, names from the past will also be appearing to give the show a nostalgic feel.

No names were specified.

– Author and Linda McMahon activist Irv Muchnick published today the death clause written in all WWE talent contracts:

“WRESTLER, on behalf of himself and his heirs, successors, assigns and personal representatives, hereby releases, waives and discharges PROMOTER from all liability to WRESTLER and covenants not to sue PROMOTER for any and all loss or damage on account of injury to any person or property or resulting in serious or permanent injury to WRESTLER or WRESTLER’s death, whether caused by the negligence of the PROMOTER, other wrestlers or otherwise.”

– The Great Khali celebrates his birthday today as he turns 38 years old.

I love how they write the death clause right before they write that it’s Khali’s birthday.

So if i’m correst. That means if WWE kills a wrestler under contract… they are not at fault? Just trying to get this straight is all.

Saintsman, WWE are covering themselves against possible law suits from the families of deceased stars. WWE are a company who are focused on developing entertinment and whilst they may have helped prevent said death – they’re covering themselves by basically saying that whilst they will help a star maintain health, they are not responsible for the well being of said star, which in fairness they are not. WWE push thier talent and some may argue they overwork their talent but it ultimately comes down to the talent themselves to maintain thier own personal health. Being independent contractors, they are responsible for thier own company – ie/ themselves.

Hope that helps answer ya questions.

If a wrestler dies because of doing hardcore drugs or something like that, it’s totally their fault, and thus not WWE’s issue. But to say that WWE is in no way responsible for wrestlers who live in constant pain, and get addicted to pain pills just to keep going every day, is ridiculous. It is still the wrestler’s choice to take the pills, yes, but I mean what else are they going to do, if they want to keep wrestling?

The sad truth is, the nature of the business has changed, decades ago, most wrestlers lived to a ripe old age, because the nature of the in-ring action was much more straight forward, no high flying, no “hardcore” wrestling, no huge risk-taking falls, etc. It was just WRESTLING. Telling a story with a mock fight, and entertaining fans. Now, with all the crazy risks a lot of young wrestlers take, all the high flying moves, jumping off of high objects onto other wrestlers, etc. etc. etc., the sad fact is, that these young guys we’re watching now, have a high chance of dying young themselves, for various reasons related to the kind of in-ring work they do.

The human body just wasn’t meant to take the kind of punishment they put it through on a regular basis, especially with little to no time to rest and fully recuperate.

But just as its their choice to continue doing drugs, it is their choice to wrestle and do those moves.
Its no different to boxers or racing drivers. You have to accept that there are risks with these jobs, and you choose to do it of your own volition.
WWE & TNA do not force people to wrestle, just as Ferrari does not force people to race for them.
Even as a customer, if you go to a race, on the back of tickets it will say that racing is dangerous, and that by entering the race track you accept that you put yourself at risk on your own volition.

I do not blame WWE for this.
I would say though, if the death or injury was caused by negligence on the promoters part, that would probably be a criminal offence, and would be pursued by the proper legal processes.

Well i would say if it is wrestlers doing drugs it is there fault. In owen hart’s case it was wwe fault he died in www ring at wwe ppv 11 years ago a bad stunt so wwe is at fault there that is fact. so if wwe superstar is confined to wheelchair from taking a inverted piledriver or a power bonmb then wwe is not at fault? what a joke wwe fault owen died.

If they didn’t wrestle so many days a year, it wouldn’t be as bad. I still don’t get why WWE has such a ridiculous schedule.

@dustin because vince wants to make as much money as he can. He doesn’t care about wwe superstars or divas they are dollar signs to him. If it was up to vince mccheapstake he would have wwe and wrestlers and divas on road for 365 days a whold year imo.

So if WWE says “You gotta come from above on a wire”. And when you do it the same thing happens to you that happens to Owen Hart. So WWE isn’t at fault? So It’s your own Fault? Sounds kinda stupid. i mean, cuz if you don’t do it, WWE WILL fire you. So. Idk, just sounds stupid to me.

So apw student if you take a bad bump from a piledriver or a running powerslam and your messed up like luger apw is not responible then. I never had to signed anything like this when i was training in marital arts from 1993-2002 with craig cramer academy of marital arts. I guess marital arts training is diffrent they are responible for me when i was training.
