Note on Big Show vs. Shaq, Concern on RAW Over Making New Top Superstars

- In an interesting update on the potential Shaq vs. Big Show match, it should be noted that UFC play-by-play announcer Mike Goldberg serves as a host on the new ABC series “Shaq Vs.” WWE very publicly failed to draw Goldberg away from the UFC as it prepared for its return to the USA Network several years ago, so if Shaq does indeed make another RAW appearance in support of the new series, many are curious if the clips and promotional comments will make mention of Goldberg’s involvement in the project.

- The theme of contradictions resumes backstage in WWE. Vince McMahon is reportedly very frustrated with the creative team’s inability to create new stars, yet RAW–the program in which he has the most involvement–continues to operate without concern for burying rising talent. Evan Bourne, Kofi Kingston and Chris Masters have all been booked to look weak in recent weeks.

The fact that SmackDown generates significantly more acclaim than RAW supports an insider’s point: “Vince and his current crop of generals are so inside a bubble that they cannot even define what is logical anymore.” McMahon is far more hands-on with RAW, and while the show is far and away the most popular–and is now generating mainstream attention by virtue of its guest hosting gimmick–the feeling is that it is gravely struggling in getting new in-ring sensations over.

To RAW’s credit, most insiders are going to dismiss non-wrestling segments (such as comedy bits and celebrity hosts) as proof that the show is “out of touch,” even if they actually produce improvements in viewership and press coverage.

can we stop saying that Raw is generating main stream attention? Look, the Shaq thing got played for a day on Sportscenter… it may have even drew a few people to watch who normally wouldn’t (and sure as hell didn’t return the next week), but who else has drawn?

Piven? Please, as funny and good as he is on entourage, nobody made sure to tune back into Raw to catch him. It’s a dumb gimmick that has already run it’s course. It kills your ability to develop storylines as you west backstage/interview segments with the host rather then the talent.

How about having hte Miz beat Cena… hey, how about he even does it cleanly! Why have Jack Swagger lose to Evan Bourne only to have him squash him once and semi squash him the next time?

Nothing they are doing makes sense right now. There is very little development that happens outside necessity (mass injuries) and they are running a PG product when the fans don’t want it.

I agree with you completely. Anybody else sick of raw being shit? I suggest a boycot. If your fed up like me don’t watch raw monday. Don’t even turn it on to see whats gonna happen. That’s what I’m doing from now on. I refuse to watch raw anymore cause it’s garbage. You could always read the results on here and skip on over to youtube if there’s something you just must see.

I’m sick of Raw, everyone can rave about Smackdown all they like but Raw is live and is the main show. Mark I’ve been doing as you say for a while. I admit am looking forward to DX returning but thats because HBK is the man. Finally I don’t want Legacy to beat them, that stable is a joke especially Cody Rhodes. They do not deserve to beat DX.

The last thing WWE has to do is let Legacy lose to DX.It is time to stop burying talent.
