New Report on Major CM Punk Heat – Why Undertaker Won the World Title

Posted by Marc Middleton on Monday, October 5th, 2009

- Word going around the WWE locker room is that the reason CM Punk lost the World Heavyweight Title last night is because of heat on him stemming from an incident on the recent European tour.

The story goes that there was in issue with how Punk was dressed and The Undertaker said tried to nicely tell Punk that he was the World Champion and was representing WWE overseas so he should dress better. Punk said something to the effect of “what about John Cena?”

This got back to WWE management and they took it as Punk thinking he was a bigger star than John Cena. Then the decision was made to take the belt off Punk at Hell in a Cell and put the match as the opener. It is noted by Dave Meltzer that this may not be exactly how the story went down but it’s how it was told.

The problems with Punk and losing the title has been the talk of the SmackDown locker room for the past two days. As noted last night before the show, several on the SmackDown brand were under the impression that Undertaker was winning and he did. There are some who are wondering why Undertaker was given the title considering his limited schedule and health problems with the feeling that it was too soon to take the title off Punk.

Word is that WWE is planning on going with a Batista vs. Undertaker feud for the World Heavyweight Title.

Ok here is what WWE needs to do. Now that Orton is WWE champion again, he needs to head over to ECW and take the ECW title, probably sometime before the Rumble. At the Rumble Batista wins the not only the World title, but the Rumble itself. Batista then goes on Raw the next night and challenges Orton for the WWE title. At Mania it is a winner take all for the undisputed World championship. Then just like the Tag titles, the World champion defends on all three brands. At this point you work on building your secondary titles (US- Raw, IC- Smackdown, maybe a TV-ECW or just use the US/IC champions on ECW).

Punk got punished for asking a valid question. He is right. Cena still dresses the same from this thug gimmick. Only difference is he’s not wearing gold chains and jerseys anymore. Both champs should be held to the same standard.

I didn’t see this PPV. But I can’t believe they had Taker/Punk first. And was there anyone busted open? A PG Hell in a Cell PPV? Why didn’t they just give it a PG name like Happy Funtime in a Cell.

I too am getting tired of the same old stars constantly fueding all the time. Vince wants new stars but he keeps everyone from breaking through.

It was a good ppv overall from and action standpoint….no bad matches. Still the way they booked Punk/Taker was plain and simply moronic. This was there chance to continue to build Punk up and a grueling win in HIAC over Taker would have done even more then his win over Hardy. Also while a good match you still got this sense that Taker was superior as a character/wrestler which was a bad move for WWE. You got the feeling when Taker’s wrestled say HBK or Triple H that win or lose they took Taker to the limit and almost won. Punk has been booked weak in every title reign and it pisses me off to no end. Taker/Batista is about as boring a retread feud as they could do currently. Punk really should get the gold back soon….whether this story is true or not it’s a foolish reason to make such a snap decision like this. Sounds like crotchety old agents looking for an excuse. Taker is an icon but there is no reason for him to hold the title right now….does nothing for him or WWE.

Well if indeed its true that taker faces Batista…then most likely Batista will win.

But if it were me. I’d say this should be the reason to lead Taker into Wrestlemania and LOSING, and thus RETIRING. Have Taker stay champion till Wrestlemania. Should’t be hard for creative to do that and to think of ways to keep him as champ to that point considering Taker’s limited schedule now (highly understand that on his health and injury standpoint) Have Taker lead all the way to Wrestlemania and then lose to a great up and coming star and then retiring after the match. Build up could be that Taker would retire win or lose. Will he retire by winning at Wrestlemania and keeping the undefeated record intact? Or will he retire by finally losing at Wrestlemania while at the same time losing the title to an up and coming big future star?

People would definately be split on their reasons why he should or shouldn’t lose at Wrestlemania, but if all of us know just how much of a professional that Taker is, it would show a great deal about who Taker is if he were to end his career like that (going in as champ and then losing it at wrestlemania and then retiring)

My personal opinion given the only people that have a shred of a chance to become future stars at the moment, the nod would go to either Ted DiBiase or CM Punk or Morrison (who definately is a much better character as a heel)

Speaking of Ted, i can’t help but wonder now if they are just going to rehash the whole storyline they did a few years ago that involved Evolution. (HHH vs. Batista)

More likely we will be seeing the same thing with Legacy (Orton vs. Ted DiBiase)

Not be surprised the least considering the Raw creative team is not very creative. And when in doubt, just keep rehashing the same storylines, etc.

Punk made a good point. Considering how much of every year is spent with Cena as champion, why doesn’t Cena have to conform to this individuality crushing, senseless dress code as well??? Fucking WWE fascists! Who do they think they are controlling every aspect of the lives of these alleged ‘free agents’??? Livestock has more freedom than a wwe superstar!!! And Undertaker should be working a full time schedule if he’s going to carry the World Heavyweight Championship or not have it at all. I’m getting sick of this ‘wrestlers court’ bullshit I’m always hearing about and how everyone is in the doghouse for one wrong move that they don’t get to live down for years and years.

This whole story reaks of bs.. sorry, but i hardly think the wwe cares about what their guys dress like if they draw ppv buys.

Also, they are freaking pro wrestlers! Who the f8ck expects them to look classy? What, you put CM Punk in a pair of khakis he doesn’t look like he’s a guy with a fucked up face?

Undertaker should lose to Drew McIntyre at Wrestlemania. That would raise Drew’s character and bring in a lot of heat.

OMG Dave. You little stupid mark. Anybody who says “ZOMG TNA ROO0oooLZ WWE SUX lololol” in 2009 automatically classifies as a mark. TNA hasn’t been good since 2006, and they were still pretty mediocre back then.

I wouldn’t mind another Batista/Taker feud. Their one in 2006-2007 was just incredible and they have the chemistry unlike Taker and Punk.

Daniel u said “Taker is an icon but there is no reason for him to hold the title right now….does nothing for him or WWE”

Sorry but your wrong as Smackdowns current European tour is being called The Undertakers rest in peace tour, so it makes sense to them to have it on him for that as they will hope for sell out tours.
