Major News: Lots of Big Named Celebrities Booked As WWE RAW Guest Hosts

Posted by W-E on Sunday, August 16th, 2009

A Monday report in entertainment trade journal Variety discusses WWE’s guest hosting gimmick on RAW, noting that WWE RAW has effectively become part of the “talkshow circuit” for celebrities to promote projects.

The article, which acknowledges the mainstream publicity WWE has already received for episodes featuring Jeremy Piven and Seth Green, quotes Stephanie McMahon in saying that the program raises the company’s awareness in Hollywood and will hopefully translate to new viewers.

The Variety report deems the program successful thus far, saying that RAW viewership is up 10% since introducing the program.

Planned to last until early next year–possibly through WrestleMania 26–the program has attracted many recognizable Hollywood and sports names. According to the article, Bob Barker, Al Sharpton, Nancy O’Dell, Floyd Mayweather and LeBron James have been booked for future episodes. Freddie Prinze, Jr. hosts Monday’s edition.

Meanwhile, Pete Wentz, Ashlee Simpson, the Osbournes, Danny DeVito, Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa, Jimmy Fallon, Rachael Ray, MC Hammer, Woody Harrelson, Serena Williams and Ashton Kutcher are all in talks to host.

Wow this Guest host stuff really sucks when will they realize they nothing can fix their low ratings problem? they could bring back the Rock and it wouldn’t help the ratings WWE is dying and it’s all irreversable at this point this is Vinces fault the managements fault and the writers fault for failing to make new stars so basically WWE is thinking they want to bring in new fans to watch WWE just for the fact that they have someone famous hosting their show and completely ignore that the person who might be watching is not interested in wrestling? and will probably change the show within a few seconds of watching it?

Wrestling/MMA god, you are a fukin idiot. If WWE was dying they wouldn’t be getting 4.0 ratings which is considered great for tv ratings. Smackdown Raw and even ECW ratings have increased in recent weeks. And if you haven’t seen them make new stars you must not be watching Smackdown at all.

guest host would be better if they stuck with retired wrestlers I do find it funny that they can only get 2nd string movie stars, other sports personalitys comedians who aren’t funny ( jimmy fallon) and washed up rap musicians. No Samuel Jacksons, James Hetfields, Michael Jordans, or Peyton Mannings even Jason Stetham nope not in this lifetime I am actually excited to hear if they get trish to host though.

I think its a great turn for the wwe to get new viewers. Great job whoever thought of doing this. Shaq was great, and welcome back whenever he wants to come hang. Great show. The jeremy piven thing was cool, very cool turn at the end. The sgt. Slaughter show sucked balls as did the Batista episode. The hosts really need to be non wrestlers.
