JR Blog: Match He Wishes He Could Do Over, Alcatraz Match He Pitched

Posted by Marc Middleton on Friday, January 27th, 2012

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with a new blog on jrsbarbq.com. Here are some highlights:

- “One match that I called that I wish I could do over.” Some talents might say several but one that I could have nailed much better was HBK vs. Flair at WM24. I’ll take the hit on that one. I didn’t adapt well to the three man booth.

- “What’s one creative idea that was pitched that never made it?” Years ago, I threw an idea on the table to have an Undertaker vs. Mankind PPV bout, prior to the Boiler Room Brawl or what ever it was called, on Alcatraz Island. We couldn’t get it cleared legally at that time to do it. It was a rough idea with no final, final details and in hindsight might not have been one of my better suggestions. However, it did sound good at the time and packed plenty of ‘sizzle.’

Don’t worry JR the three man announce team doesn’t make much sense to me either. One guy calling the match, one guy doing color commentary, and the third guy that adds the little comment here and there when the other two need a break from talking.

Anyone ever notice that JR could probably do a better job by himself than anything Michael Cole plus two people could do? But to be fair JR and King are the greatest announce team ever.

I do think JR was the best, but as a combo nobody will top Heenan and Gorilla….

A 3 man team worked well back in the day with vince, Ventura, and Bruno Sammartino. It just boils down to chemistry with everybody and honestly since Cole went heel he sucks calling the action. He’s playing up to the heel role way too much.

Alcatraz Match still sounds intriguing. 3 man team works well with Art Donovan! :D

I thought that Cole, King and Regal worked well on Monday (Granted it was only for 2 or 3 minutes).

Why is WWE keeping JR off tv? He is still good at his job.

I like to think that maybe they care about JR’s health due to constant travel but really its just cause Cole has McMahons ear and is yes man thats why we all have to put up with him

Booker T on commentary is a joke. The fact that all these marks support it is pathetic. No one here actually knows what they’re talking about. Bunch of ass ventriloquists.

“No one here actually knows what they’re talking about.”

You included yourself on that one.

I know that match on Alcatraz sounds gimmicky as hell, but giving the time period and the shape both were in that match would have had all the potential to be sic as fuck
