Jim Ross On Sheamus’ Shock Title Win, How One Big Feud Lost Momentum and more

– The blog section of Jrsbarbq.com has been updated, with the highlights below:

Sheamus Winning The WWE Championship: “Sheamus upsetting John Cena to win the WWE Title was a MAJOR shock to me. I mentioned in an earlier blog on Sunday that I liked surprises, especially surprises that are logical and believable, and this surpirse was that and more and really caught me off guard. Good stuff. It reminded me somewhat of many years ago when Stone Cold was red hot and he lost the WWE Title to Kane in a ‘First Blood’ match. Sheamus’ victory is a huge and bold step in the right direction for another, young talent. It will be interesting to see what sort of publicity is generated in Ireland as a result of Sheamus becoming the WWE Champion.”

Orton vs. Kingston Feud: “Funny…but it seemed to me watching at home that the Orton-Kofi issue was hotter a few weeks ago than it was Sunday night on PPV. It just might have been the crowd getting restless or looking ahead to the TLC bout. However, I thought the match was really solid and I was surprised that Orton won. Nonetheless I think that Kofi accounted himself well and is ‘this close’ to being perceived as a full time main eventer. Even if Kofi had won I would have said the same thing. It just takes time to get to the next level but I do feel that Kofi has had some outstanding exposure on Raw the past few weeks especially around the time Kofi defaced Orton’s NASCAR.”

Last Night’s Three-Man Announce Team: “The three man announce booth is challenging especially when the three man team doesn’t regularly work with each other. I enjoyed the announcing of the trio tonight better than I did at the Survivor Serieswhich would indicate that Cole, Lawler, and Striker were more comfortable working with each other in San Antonio. ‘Comfort’ and ‘finding one’s zone’ are crucial when broadcasting live TV.”

I find it funny how JR says it takes some time to get to the next level when he talked about Kofi and Sheamus wasn’t even in the main event scene when he won the battle royal……..uhh so wouldn’t that be the same with Sheamus, all he did what kick King and “retire” the nobody that is Jamie Noble……WTF

JR’s point about Kane makes no sense, as first of all Kane wwore a mask at the time so there was a question of whether Austin could bust him open, plus the Undertaker busted Austin open, not Kane, and the next night Austin won it back. It was a big moment, but one that was designed to advance the story, and the status quo was restored the next night. I respect JR, but you really have to reach to try and make this seem like a smart move.

I second what Allen said about Kofi, in my opinion he, Morrison and Christian have the most potential to become main event guys on Raw or Smackdown and were built the RIGHT way, but apparently Sheamus getting the Nose’s bags eliminates the need for sensible booking.

actually it does make sense because even though it was only for one day, Stone Cold lost the belt

Yeah he lost, but not cleanly, and he won it back the next night, unless you saw it years ago or read it somewhere you don’t even know he ever was champ. By that logic David Arquette is on Sheamus’ level.

JR was talking about the “shock” value of Austin losing. Nothing to do with the mask or blood issue, simply the shock of it.

I agree there, but the context was much different as for the actual events referenced. I’m not trying to pick a fight, just pointing out that Kane’s win was to serve a storyline purpose and was never meant to last, time will tell if the same is true here.

I think if they plan to keep sheamus (god I hope not) champion till wrestlemania then they should have Kofi win the Rumble and have the two fued. That way we could have a new blood in the main event scene at wrestlemania.

I never find it exciting when the wwe titles change hands anyway. It lost it’s prestige since there’s two world titles. It just doesn’t seem very special.
