HBK Comments on Retiring, Mysterio Promo Edited, Chavo as Face

Posted by Marc Middleton on Sunday, March 21st, 2010

- WWE edited a great deal of Rey Mysterio’s promo that aired on SmackDown Friday. The promo was far longer live, and they also edited out “What” chants the fans were screaming during his promo.

- With WWE being in El Paso Friday night, Chavo was a baby face. Chavo teamed with Kofi Kingston as they defeated Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase, with Chavo pinning Rhodes for the victory. For those who don’t know, Chavo was born in El Paso, where his grandfather was the local wrestling promoter, despite having lived most of his life in Southern California.

- In a recent interview with SLAM Wrestling, Shawn Michaels spoke on a number of topics leading up to next Sunday’s WrestleMania.

Michaels was very open to the idea of retiring if he were to lose next Sunday. “To believe Shawn Michaels won’t still be part of my life (when I retire) is naive,” he said. “I took four years off and I think almost as many people recognized me during that time. Every day I step through the front door, (leaving wrestling) is not as far away as it once was. When it happens, I look forward to the rest and spending time with my family. Few guys get to go out the way I want to.”

When asked if Undertaker/Shawn Michaels II could top their match last year, “That’s the million-dollar question,” he said. “I’ve got to be honest, I don’t know. With the stipulation, Career vs. Streak, there’s certainly more on the line. There’s some finality, so you have to take everything into context.”

Honestly….The ONLY factor I can think of that will put this match up there with last years match is the crowd. The crowd in Phoenix next week will have to be on fire for this match to survive.

    I hope they are…

Hopefully this match doesn’t disappoint, but to be honest, they’ve been pushing it for months now, and I still don’t see the point. The two of them together last year was so-so, and with both of them if anything, more banged up and in need of rest this time round, nobody’s going to bring 100% to the table. The stipulation is just another gimmick to draw interest. I like watching Michaels, and I like watching Taker, but at this point I don’t see this match impressing or even being bigger than last time.

the last year match would of been beyond perfect if undertaker was able to do his flying clothesline spot. That was the only thing missing in last year’s phenomenal match.

i still cant understand what is the point of that storyline between michaels and undertaker. I mean they could make a better way to build up a Storyline for michaels to say “goodybe”.

What are you talking about are you guys mentally challenged? or do you not see what the whole story line is about? HBK lost at WM last year and its been eating inside him cause he knows that he can beat the Undertaker at WM(being hes Mr. Wrestlemania) but everyone doubts he can(except Triple H) so with all the doubters and what not hes became obsess entering the Rumble for a shot at taker to no success even costing Taker his championship belt and doing whatever it takes for a chance to get to face Taker at Mania again and beat him this time but Taker said since he wants it so bad and since hes puting his streak on the line then HBK must put his Carrier on the line… I mean how much better can you BUILD up STORYLINE??? it makes perfect sense you guys seem Oblivious and Incompetent to comprehend anything maybe thats why!

Michaels vs Undertaker was overrated as far as wrestling goes, due to the personalities it got way more praise then it was deserving imo.

WWE stinks nowadays… this no holds barred match wont bring a thing to the match because they want little kids to be able to watch it and they banned chairshots.

I was there live last year in Houston. I watched it on dvd not long ago and I agree for the match to live up to the hype, the crowd has to be on fire. HBK and Taker are both from Texas and the crowd added a little more I think because of it. I remember halfway thru the match, NOBODY

    Dammit I hit submit…

Nobody was sitting down! With every move we got into more of a frenzy and by the end, it was silent as we all watched it unfold. I have never been in a live crowd that was so into a match that we all shut up and gasp at all the near falls.

Truly a once in a life experience

Wow-this is a hot topic. HBK will probably give everything he has. One point about ‘The Streak”- it would be on the line whoever UT wrestled. I expect a screwjob finish.

The streak cant end its part of wrestlemania. Plus if its going to end y give it to HBK who is already the best in the business why doesnt some1 lyk Ted dibiase end so he can boost about that jus like chris jericho boosted about beating rock and stone cold on the same nyt. i was reading a report on a forum none of spoilers really said but one guy said either triple-h to screw-michaels or the match somehows to end in a draw but with the stipulation i guess triple h 1 sounds the best

Triple H screwing HBK, never seen that one before……….. which based on WWE’s track record, probably means is going to happen.

The streak won’t end. HBK could lose and end up coming back at Summerslam when he gets ”reinstated”. It’s going to be something stupid like that, there’s no way it’s going to be a clean loss.

I believe HBK deserves to end the streak. He carried the match last year and is clearly one of the best in and out of the ring performers. The only ones who can even rival him are HHH, Rock, Austin, and Hitman. I have watch for years as HBK has carried matches with Nash, Hall, Hogan, Kane, Batista, Cena, and yes Taker, and the other guys come out on the winning end. I like Taker, but what match has he carried other than the matches he’s had with other big men??? Streaks are made to be broken and with the hard work and passion that HBK puts in he deserves to end it. Plus, I doubt the WWE would allow his last match on Raw to be against Kane. HBK’s last match should be Next year a Mania against HHH in an Iron man Match so that we can see the Top two stars in the world today on the grandest stage.

I’m surprised nobody has heard the latest leak! The current plan is for Bret Hart to screw HBK. He beats Vince and he costs HBK his match. His farewell/revenge story is complete.

    To Brody.

You gotta be kidding right? HBK and Undertaker not giving 100% Those 2 are the best of the best! Period.

No matter how banged up those two are they always give 100%
I reckon it will be a good match on sunday. but i dont think either way HBK is properly retiring.

Taker has said many times he will end the streak to an up and comer. He wanted Edge and Orton to beat him but Vince said no. I think Taker will retire with the streak
