DH Smith Discusses His Time with WWE, TNA’s New India Project and More

Posted by Marc Middleton on Friday, January 27th, 2012

- Former WWE Superstar David Hart Smith recently spoke with Slam Wrestling. Here are a few highlights:

Staying busy since leaving WWE:
“That is certainly a very accurate statement. I’ve been more busy now than my last 6 months to year with WWE. I usually train during the week with strength and conditioning in the morning, or running. Then at night is kickboxing, wrestling, or jiu jitsu. Sometimes all three in the day. Then on the weekends it’s shows or overseas trips to Japan or India It’s been a lot of hard work, but great!”

TNA’s Ring Ka King in India and Chavo Guerrero:
“Ring Ka King was a good experience. Teaming with Chavo was great, both being apart of wrestling families, I think we had good chemistry and formed a good team. My first tour of India I came home and got sick, and this tour I got food poisoning. The Indian people are so friendly and have great hearts, but the food and surroundings I’m not so sure about.”

Holding several titles on the independent scene:
“I guess you could say it is a form of redemption. WWE never did give me a full and fair chance. Even when Tyson Kidd and I were tag team champions, everything we were involved in was sort of meant to not get over. I felt more times then not, we looked like a couple of cowards hiding behind Uncle Bret (Hart). I think WWE missed out on a big chance to make money with me, with my families name in Canada, and the UK too. Now, I’m champion in several promotions, doing mixed martial arts, more busy now than ever. So it’s WWE’s loss, not mine.”

Doing MMA:
“Yes I like to use a variety of submission holds and suplexes I’ve learned from Billy Robinson and Josh Barnett in my pro wrestling. Mixed martial arts could very well be a new career for me actually. I don’t want to take any chances though, so I want to make sure my skills are 100 per cent there. There’s a lot of great fighters out there, and with my name and being a pro wrestler once I start taking fights I’m going have a lot of heavyweights wanting to take me on. So once I start I have to 100 per cent ready. It’s going to take some more time though. I’d say on average to learn mixed martial arts good, you need 2 years of training. Striking, grappling, wrestling, conditioning, strength etc. Everything has to become second nature. Like Billy Robinson says ‘If you think about doing a move when your shooting you’ve missed it, and it’s too late.’”

    Well said I have never believed in athletes switching sports without proper training. I know wrestling is staged but they are athletes none the less

    This winter has been pretty cold. I used to be in a shoe, but since I got removed from Kamala’s leg, I have been freezing.

    What the fuck is some of you people’s problem? Honestly.

    Some of you swing so low from WWE’s nuts or something, that if someone gets released, or ASKS to get released, as soon as they aren’t in WWE anymore, they’re “losers” to you, because they aren’t in THE company? Get fucking real. It’s unbelievable how truly stupid some people in the internet sound, and then they wonder why a majority or wrestlers laugh at them or straight up ignore them.

    Harry Smith is a great young wrestler. He’s a third generation kid from probably THE most famous family in pro wrestling history. WWE did fuck up big time with not pushing him and Kidd. They’re still fucking up big time wasting Kidd, who is one of the best talents they have. Harry Smith, the son of the British Bulldog, should have been huge someday as a singles star in WWE. God willing, maybe they’ll pull their head out of their asses, and he’ll decide to come back. But really….if you can’t see how badly WWE fucked up with the Hart Dynasty (whom they basically only used to sell that Hart Family DVD), then you’re blind.

    @Devil Rising

    You said it right. Some people probably don’t even know how talented he is because he was barely on tv. WWE definately dropped the ball with him. It is a shame. As soon as Bret Hart was off of tv, Hart Dynasty got depushed.

    If you really thought the Bulldog’s tubby son would actually be a success story, you are sadly mistaken. It’s even more amusing that he got fired before his partner, Tyson Chickenbreast did.

    DH Smith should have atleast show his talents instead of not being on tv all the time and once bret hart left tv they buried all 3 hart members to hell.

    @Dante

    If you really think that Bulldog’s son was “tubby”, then you’re a fuckin’ tool. Sorry to say. And Tyson “Chickenbreast”? What? Lemme guess? Orton Fan? Cena Fan perhaps? HHH maybe? Are you one of those “WWE can do no wrong, Vince is awesome” types? I mean what is it?

    What could there possibly be, for you to NOT see that A) Harry and TJ (Tyson) were/are both increadibly talented young wrestlers, and B) that they were a great tag team with a lot more potential than they were allowed to show together, and WWE’s tag division SHOULD have been built up around the two of them for the next couple years. As it was, they were barely together a year, in any meaningful way.

    As I said, they were basically used to give Bret something to do, and to sell that Hart Family dvd. That’s it. Which is fuckin’ sad. Even look at Natalya. She is hands down the best WRESTLER in the “Divas” division, yet the best she can manage is stooge to Beth Phoenix? Don’t get me wrong, Phoenix is awesome. But Natalya should be champ, she should be a centerpiece of women’s wrestling in that company. Yet she, like the others, is barely used.

    Just look at how WWE treated Harry after he left. He donated (with the understanding it would be temporary) some of his ONLY remaining possessions of his father. And last I checked, WWE has yet to give those things back to him, as he asked. You’ll excuse me if I happen to see the irony in the fact that, all around, WWE continues to in one way or another screw the Hart Family over, ever since the original “Screwjob”.

    Devil_Rising….. I mean DH Smith, is that you? I’m sorry, you tried, but failed. You used the WWE as much as they used you. Smith and Kidd needed to step up, which they never did.. It takes hard work and dedication to be a superstar, not just a last name.

    I second everything Devil_Rising said 100%

    Lets face it, unless you’re some juiced up bodybuilder type (Warrior, Hogan, Cena and so on..) you’ll never amount to any real success. It doesn’t matter how good you are in the ring, if you don’t look like Vince wants you too you ain’t going anywhere. The fact that Khali & Batista got pushes and belts & legit wrestlers like Regal & the Harts didn’t is just embarrassing.

    Diesel, The reason Regal didn’t get pushed was his own fault (Drugs) and the reason the rest of the Hart didn’t get pushed is their own entitlement fault (They had no real talent or personality) they tried to get in on the coat tails of their famous relatives.

    Yes Regal did mess up I’m not disputing that, but he should’ve been WWE or World Champion way before then regardless, besides look at stoners like Jeff Hardy who get wasted constantly & how many chances he got. Why should he get more chances & Regal only gets one?

    And you say the Harts aren’t talented?? Please get over yourself… They were (and Kidd still is) one of the most talented guys on the roster & they could’ve easily been successful, but as usual Vince (or whoever it is) got bored or distracted by something shiny & split them up & the guys so out of touch he really didn’t know how to use them.

    I have got to say some of the comments on here are slightly in fact very mental, both the wwe and Tna are dropping the ball big time here, and forgive me bleating on about past teams here but both tag team divisions are awful!!! Take away from that fact that injuries do occur, teams are not given a chance anymore, you have to look back at the greats of yesterday, LOD, demolition, hart foundation, rockers, bulldogs, and more recently there have been some good teams, but great tag divisions could happen if decent teams like Harry and Tyson were given a chance, I run a promotion in London England and have two amazing teams at present in the Bhangra knights and the leaders of the new school who should really be competing in the two main companies in the states and believe that unless someone wakes up at Titan towers and Tna that tag divisions might as well just cease to exsist
