Details on Kane’s Unexpected World Championship Victory, Undertaker Update

Posted by W-E on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

The word going around is that Kane’s recent WWE World Heavyweight Championship victory was booked, in part, due to the belief that he will be retiring in the near future, F4WOnline.com’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports.

While the “near future” can mean a long time, especially in the world of wrestling, this was definitely meant to be a commemorative “last run on top” for the veteran big man. Whether the informal talks of retirement will turn into anything serious remain to be seen, as backstage retirement talk for many wrestlers, including Kane’s close storyline companion Undertaker, often leads to nothing when push comes to shove.

(The below note contains a minor spoiler for SmackDown! and Summerslam)

Regarding the expected Kane vs. Undertaker feud, sources say that is still on the cards–with a match tentatively penciled in for WWE Night of Champions. At press time, Summerslam, for which Undertaker has been advertised, is to feature Kane defending against Rey Mysterio, but it is possible that Undertaker will be involved in some way.

kinda reminds me of JBL, this kane run. JBL had a long career but it didn’t really ‘take off’ until he was given a big push and he recreated himself and got a strong reaction from the fans. i never cared for him but he was a good strong heel, that pissed a lot of ppl off.

maybe this opportunity will lead to kane reinventing himself for the better and making this more than a farewell tour.

I agree with you. I never cared for JBL that much but he was one of the few guys that could be a heel and make you genuinely hate him. Remember Muhammed Hassan? Same deal.

As for Kane’s Title run, I don’t care what the reasoning behind it is, I’m just glad the big man FINALLY has some gold. He’s deserved it for the longest time.

I’m just happy to see Kane getting a title run.
I can’t name a guy who deserves it more than Kane.

Its great to see Kane as Champion however, I’d like to see him lose it at Survivor Series, Lose a Re-Match at TLC. Then enter the Rumble and win since its another accomplishment and he holds the record for most elimnations yet he’s never won. And then I’d like to see him as World Champion again at Wrestlemania if hes still around.

Kane reinventing himself? he has so many times its not even a joke he has had so many gimmicks throughout the years such as….

Angus King, Bruiser Mastino, The Christmas Creature, Doomsday, Isaac Yankem, DDS, Mike Unabomb and of course now as Kane…

Theres nothing more he can do to reinvent himself because he already did so many times and even did as the Kane gimmick when he took his mask off and became a twisted lunatic rather when with his mask on he was a silent destroyer and the Big Red Machine…

I personally think they should of brought the old Kane back with the mask and his old theme back revamped like they did with The Undertaker when he was the bada.s.s riding on his bike and they brought him back to the old Undertaker gimmick and they gave him his old theme revamped…

I dont think Kane makes a good champion as of now they should of gave the belt to Punk, Christian or even Matt.
