Breaking: Lance Cade Dead At 29 Years Old

Posted by Tim Brown on Friday, August 13th, 2010

We are sad to report that former WWE superstar Lance Cade (real name Lance McNaught) was found dead today. He was 29 years old and leaves behind two young daughters.

Cade was trained by former WWE superstar Shawn Michaels in late 1990’s at Michaels’ wrestling academy in San Antonio, Texas. He was released from WWE after an incident on an airplane where Cade took too many painkillers and went into a seizure. He was brought back to WWE developmental last year but was never used on television and was released again earlier this year.

Cade spoke openly in several interviews about his struggle with sleeping pills. He had been working for independent promotions and in Japan over the past year.

WWE.com confirmed the reports, posting this message:

“World Wrestling Entertainment was informed Friday morning by Lance McNaught’s father that he has passed away of apparent heart failure. WWE extends its deepest condolences to the McNaught family.

Mr. McNaught was under contract from March 2003 to October 2008 and performed under the name “Lance Cade.” He returned to FCW, WWE’s developmental territory, in September 2009, and was released in April 2010.”

“Lance Cade” is currently the top trending Twitter topic in the United States.

really sad to here, thought he had a bright future if given the right opportunity, its a shame how much drugs plays into many of the top superstars over the years deaths.

I see as usual the E makes a special point of telling us all he was no longer under contract. Classy.

The age these guys are starting to drop is getting younger all the time. Used to be around the early 40′s. Now we got guys like Cade, Trent Acid and more not even making it to 30.

This whole business is a morgue and it will never change.

it seems like their reminding everyone that these guys are not under contract more and more now that linda is running for senate. i’m sure this will be something she’ll be asked about a bunch over the next few days. while i believe that people make choices and are responsible for the ones that they make at the end of the day, the business needs to change.

it was reported during the benoit investigation that the average life expectancy of a wrestler was 50. there are probably more deaths we don’t hear about all the time. what will it take for guys to get more time off to rest and relax instead of spending more time in an airplane than they do with their family? it’s a sad day, not because another wrestler died, but because two more kids will grow up without their father. even if this is something inherited and had nothing to do with wrestling, it’s still very sad.

RIP Lance Cade. I can’t believe how young these deaths are. Tragic. My deepest condolences to his loved ones.

I hope the selfish politicians and media don’t exploit this tragedy just to attack Linda McMahon, for their own personal interests.

Its truly sad at that age, but why do people on here attack WWE for making a simple statement of fact, instead of just making some respectful comments towards the deceased?

Simple fact is, since the Benoit incident, WWE (and wrestling as a whole) has been under media scrutiny.
Since certain parts of the media dont bother looking up the details, WWE has to now put stuff like that in their obits in case certain media outlets try to suggest he was still with them, as it would then obviously bring there drug policy into question.
Like it or hate it, WWE is a business and it has to protect itself, not only for the shareholders and the McMahons, but for the people who work for them as well.

You may not see it as classy, but to me, the people who’s first thoughts are to bash WWE are the ones with no class.

This is truely a f#$%ed up situation. If only he went to the free rehab that WWE offers to all its present and past wrestlers. Believe me, if there was free rehab in the United States just think of all the live it could save. Both wrestlers and normal peoples. I feel for his little girls. RIP.

Another young talent gone too soon. As someone said earlier WWE had a wrestler in Lance Cade who had the potential to be a US or Intercontinental Champ but was never elevated to that level or used properly

Its sad but how can anyone be stunned by this knowing how pills and the wrestling business go hand in hand. It just seems like anymore everyone in the world is abusing some kind of f***** pill. Look at the deaths in the business over the past 25 years, 3/4s of them have to do with heart failure/overdose… mostly a combo of painers and steroids. It just brakes bodies down over time, another wrestler dies much too young… RIP Lance Cade

    ^to this idiot^

Lance Cade was a professional wrestler who was trained by The Showstopper himself. He was another one of those wrestlers who had *it* but was never given the chance. And when he finally did in 2008, he had a seizure and was fired for overdosing on pain meds.

Cade and Murdoch were one helll of a tag team.

    RIP…Lance Cade.

Its truly sad to see another very gifted, talented, and charismatic wrestler had to go this way, most people here will say well he shouldn’t have taken the pills or whatever, but the fact is the world lost one the most talented wrestlers at his age, very sad.

RIP Lance, I only hope you enjoy wrestling in the ring that you are now provided with wherever you may be right now. And may we all get the chance to see him wrestle again someday.
