Backstage News on Vince Russo Making Stars

By Marc Middleton on September 6, 2009

Source: Wrestling Observer

- It is being said backstage in TNA that lead writer Vince Russo is “on a mission” to make their top talent such as AJ Styles, Matt Morgan, and Hernandez into bigger stars. Dixie Carter is also said to be a huge fan of those three wrestlers. TNA views Matt Morgan as one of their homegrown talents despite WWE being the company who discovered him.

With Russo having complete creative control, he wants to send a message to younger talent that they are looking to develop new stars. The general feeling backstage is that Russo is more trustworthy than Jeff Jarrett, whom had a reputation for supporting his circle of friends only.

Hang on, lets pause for a breath. This is the same Vince Russo who had a hand in plunging the dagger in the heart of WCW? Okay, if I was Dixie, Styles, Hernandez, or Matt Morgan, I’d PRAY every night that Russo decided AGAINST making them bigger stars, because i promise you, itll mean the difference between being the future, or a human sacrifice.

Well, it is proven that Russo has had both good and bad ideas in the past. I’d be willing to bet the MEM and Jeff Jarrett’s return last year were both Russo’s idea. Russo made it so people weren’t really THAT tired of seeing Jeff. And for once, Russo didn’y try to put the belt on Jeff. So props. If Russo does even a halfway decent job of getting these guys over, maybe they’ll have jobs in the TNA invasion of WWE. Because TNA, even without Russo’s involvement, hasn’t yet found away to really draw fans. I mean 20,000 PPV buys for Bound For Glory…

I just remembered, it was 120,000 for last years Bound For Glory, which still sucks.

It was seeing guys like AJ Styles in the main event that really brought me into watching TNA. Hopefully they’ll pop him back in the main event picture after he retires Sting and not keep him as a high-mid carder.

My fingers are crossed that Hernandez and Morgan are used correctly in the near future and given a push they deserve.

How do you make AJ a bigger star? He pretty much is the face of TNA.

The guys mentioned should have no problem becoming “bigger” stars themselves, without Russo’s help. What’s going to happen is, Russo will build them up and make them look good, make fans really embrace them, then their egos will get too big for little ol’ TNA and they’ll jump ship to WWE to be midcarders on ECW (if they’re lucky, of course). Vince has deep pockets whereas TNA can offer opportunity. In this economy and knowing the motto, “money talks,” well, draw your own conclusions.

Guys, Vince ain’t so bad about bringing new talent. I mean, we never expected to see CM Punk and Jeff Hardy main-eventing Summerslam in one hell of a match. In 2003 Cena and Orton were mid-carders fighting for IC and US titles. Rey Mysterio was then battling for the cruiserweight title. Look at them now. Maybe Styles will be a huge star in WWE if he went there considering that he was supposed to be there in 2002 but his girlfriend’s college problems didn’t make it possible to stay in WWE. I will only watch TNA if guys like Kurt Angle, Nash, Booker T and all the has-been or already know superstars are gone from the company. It will be amazing to see Styles vs. Samoa Joe battling for the TNA Championship at Bound For Glory.

AJ is definitely the star, or better yet, franchise player, of TNA. I can see both hernandez and Morgan being stars as well. We’ll just see how long it is before Kevin Nash’s ego come into play. Alot of people say Russo was the guy that killed WCW. I agree, but I also feel that Nash had a part in that too.

aj styles is the best wrestler in tna and should be pushed as the main face. tna should build their talent off the guys that come from wwe not let them get beat down all the time by them

It will only be a matter of time before the roles reverse. meaning tna guys or gals will jump ship 2 play with the big boys. wwe offers money, opportunity, and exposure. homicide is gonna be the first 2 go
