Recap from Today’s TNA Press Conference – iMPACT Confirmed

Posted by Marc Middleton on Monday, February 15th, 2010

- Mike Tenay opened the press conference and spoke to members of the media who were there.

TNA President Dixie Carter came out and talked about how far TNA has came over the years. She talks about January 4th and TNA’s record ratings. She says after seeing these results, TNA and Spike TV thought about moving iMPACT to Mondays. She confirms that TNA iMPACT will begin airing on March 8th from 9-11pm, head-to-head with WWE.

Dixie talks about Hulk Hogan joining TNA and introduces him. Hogan says he had no idea such amazing things would be happening in TNA in such a short amount of time. Hogan says he has never been around a company before that has so many positive things going for them. Hogan says this is bigger for him than any other wrestling moment in his career.

Hogan says from this day on, things are going to change like they have never changed before. Hogan says he feels young again being in TNA. He thanks Dixie, her father Bob and everyone in TNA for letting him be there.

A reporter asks them how long they think TNA will stay on Mondays. Dixie says it can go forever and says they have no other plan, this is it. They are committed to making the move. Another reporter asks why they decided to go from 9-11pm and not 8-10pm. Dixie talks about the Spike schedule but Hogan alludes to beating WWE and says this comes from a wrestler’s standpoint.

Hogan talks about the Monday Night Wars and helping WCW compete with WWE years ago. Dixie says there was no talk of moving iMPACT to three hours. Another reporter asks if there has been any reaction from WWE. Hogan says no and there won’t be because WWE doesn’t acknowledge their competition. Hogan says the talent in WWE are cheering them on because this gives them an option. Hogan says the people in WWE’s offices are running around panicking though.

Dixie says she wants to give the wrestling fans something to be proud of again and talks about TNA continuing to grow. Hogan says working at TNA is like going to church. Hogan puts over TNA some more before Mike Tenay closes the press conference.

Then why did she sign Hogan? Hogan is not the beginning…he is the end.

Are you guys serious? Do you remember how WCW started. In Universal Studios, in a little 1,000 seat arena. Sounds a lot like TNA right? Do you remember who was head of WCW, Eric Bischoff. He took that company to the top, you dont think he will do the same things with TNA?

You guys are idiots. This is the best thing to happen to wrestling. Wrestlers will start jumping ship to different companies and more importantly THIS GIVES THE WRESTLING BUSINESS MORE EXPOSURE!!!

    Thank you Max.

WCW started off in front of 1,000 people, they took the Monday Nihgt challenge and it didn’t happen overnight. It took more than 3 years but it finally happened. 88 weeks in a row Nitro beat RAW.

Also WWF didn’t buy fricking WCW. Turned sold the company to them. Sure WCW got crappy during 99-01 but that’s not the reason why WWE bought them out. Turner just gave up on it and sold it to Vince.

These freaking 12 year olds online wanna think they know every bloody thing. Why can’t they just continue to watch theirdumb little midgets and stop trying to sound smart. They never saw WCW, never bothered to do research on it, hell they probably have never heard bout TNA until Jan 4th.

u guys look at ratings too much. 2 wrestling shows can survive on monday night it has happen before. 1 show will always have higher ratings doesn’t mean the other is going under.

this just gives me a chance to watch raw again, because i stop once the guest host thing started.

But TNA is no where near as established as WCW was. It didn’t “start out” in a small venue in Orlando. WCW, as an offshoot of the NWA, had been around for years prior to becoming more mainstream and established (that really happened when Bischoff took over…. WCW, that is). Get your facts straight before posting.

Should have done 8-10. They would have been the lead in to Raw and got pretty good ratings. Instead they will be gone and/or bought out by vince in 5 years or less.

News flash kids. TNA was going the way of WCW for the last few YEARS, not just when Hogan and Bisch showed up.

    Universal Studios? Check.

“Fake” audience that gets in free? Check.

Tons of old WCW and WWE Wrestlers (including even back BEFORE they moved to Orlando). Check.

Making the “old guys” the top stars, like Sting, Nash, Steiner, Booker T, Foley (even though he’s awesome). Check.

Associating with Vince Russo (Which they’ve done for MOST of their existence, remember?). Check.

Making a joke out of most of the younger, talented wrestlers, like Sonjay Dutt, Jay Lethal, etc. Check.

Trying REALLY hard to be like WWE, even though they claim to be totally “different”. Check.

Focusing over half their time and effort knocking WWE and trying to take pot shots at them. Check.

Hell. Having Hogan and moving to Monday Nights is almost two years too late. All they need now is to convince Goldberg to come out of retirement in SOME capacity, and they’re WCW. It’s been in the works for a long time.

So don’t act surprised now. lol

TNA are douches for trying to go head to head with WWE.Vince McMahon dosen’t even care about TNA.We got more talent in WWE than TNA has in its roster. We have Batista,John Cena,Christian,Edge,Triple H,The Undertaker,Shawn Michaels,John Morrison,Shelton Benjamen,Big Show, and others who are way better than TNA’s roster by themselves.Screw Tna

she wants to give the fans something to be proud of? so letting hulk hogan, a worn out has-been, captain the ship, and invite a bunch of, excellent in their time, old f**ks out of their retirement homes and bed pans fully equipped with sponge baths, to down play their already excellent talent? wtf? i have never been so ashamed to see ric flair, or the nasty boys. hell scott hall and waltman need a new gig. i mean seriously this is giving wrestling a bad image. RIP TNA. never quite made it to the big leagues…

Rich, I can appreciate not liking TNA’s product. On that, I agree with you.

But otherwise, on the talent comment…please don’t let your WWE fandom shine through so much.

Bringing up guys like Batista, Cena, HHH, and HBK as examples of “talented” wrestlers, in comparison to TNA? That’s weak as hell, and I hope you know that. Batista and Cena are TERRIBLE wrestlers. HHH has only ever been average at best, and would never have gotten where he is without the Boss’ daughter in his pocket. HBK is the only one who USED to be a great talent. Used to be.

Taker, Christian, Edge, John Morrison, Shelton Benjamin, hell even Big Show (for a giant he’s good), you got right. But what about Carlito, Evan Bourne, Primo, DH Smith, Tyson Kidd, Kofi Kingston, R Truth, Gregory Helms, Chavo Guerrero, Dibiase & Rhodes, Orton, CM Punk, Natalya, Melina, Mickie James, Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, even guys like Goldust and Funaki are talented guys.

But TNA? COME ON dude. AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, The Pope, The Motor City Machine Guns, Suicide, Homicide (lol), Amazing Red, Awesome Kong, Hamada, Serita, Tara (Victoria), The British Invasion, Team 3D, Rhino, hell…STING? TNA has PLENTY of talent. PLENTY. It’s not the wrestlers’ fault that the company has been going in a retarded direction for years. It’s not the wrestlers’ fault that they hired Hogan and are trying to be WCW 2.0.

Don’t mistake my last post, all that stuff is true, but it’s not like I HATE TNA. If anything, I want TNA to succeed, and wish they were better than they were. They used to be unique, even BEFORE the silly six sided ring, because they DIDN’T explicitly try to be WWE, and they focused on the X Division, which usually houses their best wrestlers. TNA is full of awesome talent. They’re just wasting it on silly BS, trying to beat WWE. That’s all.

I know I’m happy to hear er uh read this news. I’ve been a fan of the WWE for over eleven years now, but I’ve gotten really bored with the Raw product. Let’s hope this lights a fire under Vince’s @ss. I know I’ll most likely be watching TNA mondays instead of Raw. I just can’t get into Raw like I used to, not that iMPACT has me on the edge of my seat, but at least it’s somewhat original. That and it Frees up My thursedays nights for Supernatural. ;)

I agree that TNA’s monday night run is good for competition as it will create better television, and it also gives wrestlers options. However, someone always has to be number two, and TNA can fill that role. Though they may try, they will never measure up to McMahon and WWE’s product, quality, or global reach.

WWE has held the Wrestling reigns long enough. Everyone remembers how exciting the Monday Night Wars were. Always wondering what one show would do to ONE UP the other show. Who was going to show up where. the only mistake I see is TNA going live every other week rather then every week. Eric Bischoff was the master of ruining the results and such of Raw when it was taped, I think Vince will remember this and do something like it himself to TNA. Other then that, I can’t wait to see GOOD wrestling programs again.

It won’t be much of a challenge measuring up to wwe, especially taking into account tonight’s failure of a show. If the best wwe can offer is a rehash of the Jerry Springer show, they’re in deep trouble.

first to those who said WCW started at Universal Studios go to wikipedia or something and get educated

seconnd to those who think this means greater matches from both, sorry the only reason for the attitude era was Vince was broke and he gambled on Austin, it worked, Vince is stable he can care less now(example this weeks Raw crapfest).

Vince is starting is own wrestling network which is nice because TNA will have someplace to go. Sorry I like TNA talent (most of them) but they shouldn’t go after WWE yet.

    You guys are all wrong!!

    Here’s the real fact:

Vince McMahon told Hogan to go to TNA and destroy it, so Vince saves a lot of money because he doesn’t have to buy TNA when Dixie calls to sell it to him :)

Flair is just there to help Hogan destroy TNA.

maybe tna moving to mondays will give WWE a wake up call to change its current product. When WCW took WWE in the ratings in late nineties, WWE changed the product and look what happened.

it’s not about hate it’s about what’s best for the company in order to grow. As much as everyone wants to force the issue of a war at this point they are not ready

I want TNA to grow and be better(while I’m at in ROH too) this is not they way to do it.

But the path they’ve chosen is not one of success. It’s WCW’s failures all over again.
