News on a TNA Gimmick That Never Happened, Don West Update, Abyss, More

Posted by Marc Middleton on Thursday, August 20th, 2009

- PWInsider reports that recent reports of TNA iMPACT tapings schedule changes are incorrect.

- TNA has released a new t-shirt for The British Invasion.

- You can now follow Abyss on Twitter at http://twitter.com/therealabyss.

- TNA’s website has already announced that Taz will join the announcing team on iMPACT and mention Don West’s new job in the company.

- You may remember a few months ago, TNA was teasing the debut of a controversial new character from Mexico named Andromeda. Openly gay wrestler Cassandro was set to debut in TNA with the gimmick but we never heard anything else about it.

Cassandro has told people that he felt two people in TNA who would have had some control over his character were rude and homophobic and said he has no interest in working for TNA as a result. On the other hand, a TNA source says the company didn’t bring Cassandro back because of visa issues or something along those lines.

I have no interest in seeing that gimmick although gold dust was cool back in the days but I bet Jarret and Corentte were the two fags excuse the pun.

i don’t think it would have been visa issues, cause he lives in el paso.

If you’re going to have an openly gay character, there are going to be sterotypes that goes along with it. If he had a problem with that, then there was no reason to play an openly gay character. What would be the point of having him come to the ring in a rainbow jumpsuit and talk with a lisp if the other wrestler’s weren’t going to react to it? Just because you’re gay, doesn’t mean you have to play a gay character….. just look at Chris Kanyon.

I think that was the point. He may not have wanted to be the rainbow wearing “hey girl!” gay character. That’s a a pretty harsh stereotype I think. Not all gays are the annoying fruity fairy type. (Anybody remember rico?)

This wouldn’t have been the right edgy gimmick I had in mind as it’s been played to death but I hope TNA continues to be a little more adult……People who know me know that I’m a big mark for former WWE Development talent Aaron “The Idol” Stevens….his gimmick in OVW with Beth Phoenix and Shelly “Ariel” Martinez as two Bi sexual valets was gold and very entertaining. It’d be a great move bringing him in….the guy is immensely talented.
