Hulk Hogan at TNA’s Genesis PPV, Changes to TNA’s Ring?, and More

- It’s interesting to note that the DVD cover for “End Game” which starred Kurt Angle and former TNA Knockout Jenna Morasca promotes Angle as a WWE star with no mention of TNA. There is also no mention of Jenna’s run in wrestling.

- Despite being advertised on the TNA Genesis poster, sources say Hulk Hogan is not expected to wrestle at the show. Hogan has been advised to hold off on wrestling for TNA until the time is right and the build is right.

- While nobody from TNA or Spike TV has teased this, people who are being recruited by the Hogan and Bischoff side are still under the impression they will be airing on Monday nights beginning January 4th or at least that the January 4th date will be live on Monday.

Hogan has also been telling people he wants to get rid of the six-sided ring. There is also confidence that Rob Van Dam and Ric Flair will eventually come to TNA with Hogan.

A couple things. First, obviously the people behind that DVD are going to say WWE and not TNA because, frankly, the majority of people are aware of WWE, not TNA. Facts are facts. Saying that he was a TNA star would be like saying “And starring Kurt Angle, he eats Malt-O-Meal for breakfast!”

Second, I really do hope TNA gets a show on Monday nights -AND- gets with it and goes with a traditional wrestling ring. The 6-sided ring was unique, but I see it as a novelty. Wrestling, since it’s inception, has always had a normal, 4-sided ring. Honestly, and this is going to sound kind of lame, but the 6-sided ring is one reason I’ve had a difficult time taking TNA seriously. Once they get their act together, they just might be a viable alternative to the other ‘Entertainment out there.

Judging from all the comments he has made, I think it’d be interesting to ask Hogan what things about TNA he does like, because it seems like every time he mentions them he’s talking about what he wants to change.

You see that’s the thing. Everyone keeps talking about big changes in TNA but honestly things are quite good right now. There is always room for improvement but young guys are legitimately getting pushed, we’ve had a string of amazing ppv’s, The Knockouts division is getting better and better……..some of these comments being made imply that TNA isn’t a very good product and I totally disagree.

One improvement that could be made is renewed focus on the X Division. Things are good but it hasn’t felt like a focal point in the company for awhile. I think there are at least a handful of free agents to spice things up in that area as well as Petey Williams and Sonjay Dutt who should be rehired as it was a boneheaded move releasing them in the first place. TNA would never have made it this far if it weren’t for the X Division because that gave us all something we weren’t getting from WWE.

Another thing I personally enjoy factions in wrestling however with The Main Event Mafia angle running it’s course I really do not want to see another reformation or NWO type group dominating tv time. It’s really stale and at this point guys like Steiner, Nash, Foley, Jarrett, Sting, Hogan, etc. main goal should be getting over the fresh talent. And nobody on that list in my humble opinion needs a run ever again with the TNA title. They all have the name value and can have meaningful feuds with whoever the gold isn’t necessary.

Also there is room for new talent in TNA for sure but when it comes to big names you have to make sure they are still relevant. Below is a list of talent they should “maybe” sign and who they shouldn’t touch-

    Yes-

RVD- still very over with fans as proven with his WWE cameos and despite turning 39 this month the guy can still go and nobody thinks of him as an old wrestler. He’s one I’d genuinely be excited to see in TNA.

Jeff Hardy- assuming his legal trouble clears up he’s possibly the most valuable free agent TNA could possibly nab. His last TNA run he was coming from WWE very haggard and burnt out and it really wasn’t as big a deal as it could have been for that reason. Many actually thought it was a mistake signing him at the time. His last few years in WWE however he’s become one of there most popular stars. He had been getting pops right up there with DX and Taker. I think he’ll end up going back to WWE in a year or so but OMG would Vince be pissed if he made the jump. It is possible since WWE might have trouble signing him and looking shady after the whole drug thing. He’s a risk I’d take for TNA.

Ken Anderson- If it weren’t for a couple ill timed injuries and personal mistakes I think WWE was ready to put gold on this guy. He’s definitely not at the level that I’d have him come in and automatically challenge for the title. However there is still potential money to be made with this guy and I’d give him that shot to prove himself.

Umaga- This guy is an amazing big man worker. As many have stated since his WWE release there is big money to be made in a feud with Samoa Joe. I also feel currently he could be someone who really can help elevate World Elite and make them seem like a bigger power in the company. This man is the type of monster who fits with the TNA style and I could outline a few years worth of great feuds and angles with him in TNA.

Ric Flair- I was half and half on him to be honest. I decided to put him in the Yes section. The negative is he’d be another guy in TNA in the twilight of his career however giving credit where it’s due Nash, Steiner, Foley, haven’t really overwhelmed the show as of late. As I said above if certain people can fight the urge to make those guys the top dog it can still work with them in the company. Flair even in his sixties can still work a reasonable match and he can cut a mean promo and hold everyone’s interest. They must be clever in how they use them….like I said another faction of legends is to been there done that.

    And now to the no’s-

Scott Hall- Ugh where do I start…..Well first I must say despite Nash’s talk about getting the band back together I doubt we’ll see another NWO reformation under another name. Plus Bishchoff is not a fan of Hall. The man has just had to many chances and has proven undependable and erratic. After all probably the cardinal sin in wrestling would be to simply no show a ppv let alone a ppv in which your booked in the main event. Also even if he were dependable the man hasn’t had a decent match in many years now and obvious exception of Hogan aside I do feel TNA needs to keep guys on there roster who are capable of a decent match.

Sid- You know I was a fan back in the day. Sid is/was your typical big man worker of his day but he had a presence in the ring for sure. Still there is simply no need for him in TNA at this point. TNA has it’s homegrown wrecking machines and as I said above I’d sign Umaga long before Sid. I wouldn’t have minded Sid coming into WWE earlier this year and having a brief program with a Cena or HBK and then seeing how well he can hold up physically but TNA is not the place for him now. It’s likely irrelevant now since word is he’s injured after an overseas tour with RVD.

Sean Waltman- Much like Flair I was fifty/fifty. Waltman can still go in the ring but sadly you have a guy who tried to kill himself not even a year ago. I think he’d fit in TNA but he’s not really needed and there is that sad Guererro/Benoit risk factor you have to take into account.

Goldberg- there hasn’t been much talk but he has made a few comments in between his verbal assaults on the business of him wanting to work again. Sadly the Goldberg phenomenon really died awhile back. Now if I were to start a big third promotion to compete with WWE and TNA I’d likely sign him since he’s a huge name still in good health and shape but IMO he’d overwhelm TNA and not in a good way. Hogan would absolutely have him though….if only to recreate there big Monday Nitro title match from the Monday Night Wars.

Nasty Boys/Brutus Beefcake/Jimmy Hart/…..- I’m grouping them together because my point is the same for each. If Hogan is serious about “taking TNA to the next level” then he won’t be selfish and use his power to give his buddies work in the company. Beefcake hasn’t been over since before the Monday Night Wars even began and he has a string of failed gimmicks to prove it. Not to mention the man cannot work anymore. Seeing him in a wrestling role in TNA would be a disaster even just as an under card player. The Nasty Boys are still decent for a brawl but again there is no place for them in TNA and it’d be old and fast with there amazing lineup of young top notch talent right now.

The old guys wana get rid of the 6 sides cause the ropes are tight and cator to the high flyers who springboard off of them. For all the older wrestlers on the independent circuit i’ve seen them prefer looser ropes. So of course hogan wants the same. Flair would be cool for management and maybe a real Foley Flair Harcore match to make up for the last one. RVD and AJ would blow the roof off any area if showcased right. No Nasty boys or beefcake. Scott Hall walkedout on us already. I’m done with him. Sid I have been hearing is hard to work with. He should be gracious to get to be back on TV again. No ego’s no more additudes please. Sean Walmant can wrestle with the best of them…when sober. If what I have been hearing is correct. Monday Nights might be and X division show. Make that six sides and make thursdays regular. But I wouldn’t change it. At 1st I didn’t like 6 sides until I saw the X division and saw it as a must need. Remember Boxing had the squared ring 1st. At least TNA had it’s originality with that ring.

I think Ken Anderson, and RVD would be great for tna, btw Guerrero didn’t commit sucide daniel he died from heart problems. Jeff Hardy from what I understood didn’t renew his contract with wwe because he wanted to persue other options, so he is kinda burnt out now, would be a big mistake. I would like for Chavo Guerrero to come and have uncle hector manage him and have top either x division or maybe the world championship. Getting Rid of the 6-sided ring best thing they ever did, also they have from what I understand 2 shows is what tna is working on. there are changes in TNA coming I would like to see them work.

I like the change to a regular ring.. but that’s it. The six sided ring was made specifically for the X-Division and since the focus is no longer on X-division guys, I don’t see the point of keeping it.

if they remove the six sided ring some moves arent going to take place in tna anymore and most of those moves are awesome…the 6 sided ring must stay there….makes tna have a good original feeling. I love the 6 sided ring…matches seem more fun in it. Hogan is going to ruin tna, he doesn’t seem to like tna how it is which is a bad thing cause tna should remain the way its meant to be not change it from A to Z…if you want to change it just work on storylines and segments and building new stars not changing it completley…hogan has a old taste of wrestling…he isn’t the modern typical wrestling guy……that what scares me…he defientley is going to ruin tna ;) .
