Dixie Carter Talks About Possible Pay-Per-View Format Changes in TNA & More

Posted by Marc Middleton on Monday, August 31st, 2009

- TNA President Dixie Carter was a guest on the Live Audio Wrestling Internet radio show on Sunday night. Host John Pollock discussed TNA’s current pay-per-view formula of one event per month, Carter says she is not a fan of the monthly pay-per-view format and she would like to see the formula shaken up.

“I’m not a big fan of monthly PPVs, quite honestly, but you have contracts that keep you held in and bound at times,” Carter said. “We’re definitely talking about trying to shake things up and do things differently in the future.”

Despite the fact that TNA is a privately held company and their actual pay-per-view buyrate figures are never officially released, the data that does get out indicates that TNA has never come close to breaking 100,000 buys for an event and change is needed.

Carter repeated her recent claims that changes are coming to TNA and that she would be addressing many of the elements of the product that have become stagnant or too formula.

“I work very, very closely [with the creative team]. I’m not going to profess to be a wrestling writer. I am good at challenging people. It’s not just ratings, but other things as well,” Carter said. “We’ve made a lot of changes internally to present the product more real and focusing on these young guys.”

I hope Dixie Carter knows her history about professional wrestling and doesnt become another Ted Turner.

But I like some of the changes she’s talking about. Hopefully she can take TNA to WWE status.

Well let’s take the good……The Knockouts division is fantastic and I really think will get it’s own show as it’s really starting to become revolutionary and a first on American tv. As long as things work out with the MMA they now have a very marketable superstar in Bobby Lashley that’s still in his prime with Ken Anderson and likely Umaga on the way as popular talents who can also work the type of matches TNA was built on. They’ve trimmed at least some of the fat and I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that Jarrett is no longer going to be booking anything. Finally and this is no shot against Sting as I really hope at Bound For Glory they give him a proper send off as the true Icon he is but it’s time to move on. Free up some cash for other things. He’s done all there is to do in and for TNA. Also even though many of us have gotten use to Don West Taz is the much better choice.

Now the bad is they’ve let the X division fall by the wayside. If they didn’t have the X division there would be no TNA….I guarantee they would have went under years ago. They have released popular and essential talent like Petey and Sonjay in favor of guys like Rob Terry, Kiyoshi, and Jesse Neal who will never make them money or get people to tune in. There is also plenty of free agents to spice that division up even more….because right now I do not see a separate X division show which has also been rumored but they sure as hell can with some work. The other negative is some comedy is good but watch it when it comes to the main events. Booker T is like a cartoon…..I don’t know why he thinks the ridiculous accents are adding anything to his character…the guy is a former Champion for God’s sake. I do however hope they continue with a more adult alternative to WWE….it’s all about finding balance.

TNA an adult alternative. . . am i missing something?
Let take a look at TNA:

Rob Terry, Jesse Neal and that idiot with ODB (say no more)
shark boy and suicide (are we back in the 80s)
Eric Young as a serious heel (i think not)
shiek abdul bashir, doug williams, rhino, mcm (all under utilised)

Dixie Carter needs to start by getting a REAL ring and go from there….stop the shark boy character angle..and the Abyss which is a cheap rip off of Mankind and Kane combined. There is nothing ADULT about the cheap ripoff wrestling that is called TNA

some of tna’s problems is they have just burried some of there talent 2 years ago jay lethal was voted tna x divison superstar of the year and now ???? you never see him
the guns: again voted tag team of the year and now they are hardly on tv and when they are you know there gonna lose
abyss: what happened to him ? he was a main eventer a monster and now hes a joke
aj syles: goes from being mr. tna 2 or 3 years running and a former champ then best they can come up with for him is to have him be christian cage then kurt angles lackey make him a whiney little baby turn him face and give him some lame title that means nothing then make him almost quit ?? at least it looks like there gonna give him a push now

i admit i like the sting wanting to pass the tourch to aj but he should of been used better 2 years ago
