Backstage News: TNA Willing To Fire Vince Russo For Hulk Hogan?

Regarding the company’s mission to create new stars, TNA President Dixie Carter is currently telling employees that they may have to take a step backwards before they can move forward. As previously reported, company sources say Russo is “on a mission” to make lesser-known talent more popular than ever before. Dixie Carter has identified Matt Morgan, Hernandez and AJ Styles as her top favorites in the company.

Russo is not considered to be on thin ice due to the slumping ratings. Carter is said to realize that the TV networks are airing first run material again and that college football is running opposite iMPACT on Thursday nights. She believes that reason — along with the increased presence of lesser-known talent on iMPACT — is a fair explanation for the ratings slump.

While it may appear that Dixie is completely behind Russo, there was talk within TNA that she would be willing to fire him had her recent negotiations with Hulk Hogan led to him signing a contract. Hogan apparently still will not work with Russo, and one story making the rounds is that he wanted Kevin Sullivan and Kevin Nash to be the bookers if he was to join TNA. The deal obviously never went through and it appears that talks between the two sides are finished.

Wait is she saying the lesser-known talent on Impact is the reason for rating slump? Because maybe it is the fact the N.W… i mean M.E.M. is the same old boring shit we have seen for years. The lesser know talents are the one that started the company where the X-division title was almost more important then the Heavyweight Title. Maybe that is the step backwards they need.

If TNA truly hopes to succeed (however you want to define success), they need to stay very far away from Hogan. No offense to Hogan, but using an aging star like him is not going to help TNA become a viable company. If you were a WWE fan, would you “make the switch” just because Hogan was in TNA? Yeah, sure, you’d click over just to see what he said, but would you switch over long term? No, the majority would not. TNA has some good, young stars and if they continue to build them up with the proper amount of former stars thrown in, they’ll be all right. No amount of Hogan, Flair, etc. if going to boost TNA “over the top”.

I knew Bischoff was planning on doing something like this. Even though they say this is only for international purposes, this is just the beginning stages of something big. Bischoff is just going in a different direction. Bischoff is a smart man and no stupid AOL or Russo to mess things up this time around. You see how they are turning this into a reality TV show. HBO 24/7, TUF reality series definitely help boxing and mma. Bischoff knows what he doing. I like it already.

Russo should go no matter what but I agree no way they should allow Hogan to make those kind of insane demands. Especially since he can’t really even work a part time Sting schedule……or even Mick Foley.

Good. Hogan sucks. Hulkamania is dead. Vince and Brock killed it. TNA doesn’t need a dinosour like Hogan. They need to push Morgan, Hernandez, and World Elite. MEM is an bunch of has-beens except for Angle and Joe.

I’m not against them bringing him in for a one shot program but yes I agree having him as a regular character on tv will probably do more harm then good in the long run. Truthfully though I think he’s past the point where he can even physically manage just working tv and ppv’s, and IMO it’s just not worth it to TNA if he can’t do that anyways. It will be very interesting to see how he looks against Flair in November. Might be a deciding factor on whether Vince will reach out to him to work with Cena at Mania 26 which was discussed for this year.

I agree with Shawn, Hogan is an aging star and he will not help TNA. Beesides with the push for young superstars he is not going to help much. If Hogan is on a high position in TNA Management he is going to support the older stars more than younger which obviously is going to slow down the push for younger stars.
