Ring Rust Review: TNA For Effort
By Daniel Interlandi on November 13, 2009***Spoils Ahead***
Welcome to another edition of The Rust. This has been an interesting week I was already to review Raw, but honestly it was late and I didn’t have the strength (yikes). So scrolling down my DVR I noticed a TNA Impact that I didn’t watch, cool, let’s see what these guys are up to since the mega announcement. Ok, never mind as soon as Desmond said “he was hungry like a wolf” I decided to cut my losses grab a couple of McGuiness from the fridge and go to bed. Ok so a week has gone by and I’m all for second chances so lets review the latest TNA offering to the television gods.
We start with the legendary Super Dave….wait Super Dave? (* grabs another McGuiness*) so after that Raw moment we continue with the wrestling, Abyss vs. Stevie, before we continue I am so glad Stevie is getting a push if nothing else TNA did that right, I hope he doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. Back to the match which could be Stevie’s last, after the black hole slam Abyss goes for the pin, then lights out, we then find Abyss knocked out with Stevie draped over him for the pin, Mick Foley who was commentating decided to go in and help (wait wasn’t he a heel 2 minutes ago), so lights out again and we see fire, lights on and we get Raven? Really people Raven and I swear I think he ate Jeff Hardy’s hair, To be fair this whole thing might have been planned before the Hogan announcement so we won’t blame him for this or the next segment. Jay Lethal has got this Randy Savage stick down pat, but it’s really getting old in my opinion but whatever it’s working for him, and I can’t wait to see his legendary opponent, and the winner is? Jim Neidhart, yes the Marty Jennetty of the Hart Foundation is back baby, the match itself was interesting I guess (holy ring rust batman) with Jim picking up the surprise victory, good for him, after the match I find out were the rest of my McGuiness went .
Booby… sorry I mean Bobby Lashley cuts a promo as only he can until he gets interrupted by Scott Steiner and the chase begins, If TNA thinks ‘The Boss & his wife can replace Booker & his wife well not so much. The knockouts are next, always entertaining and talented, Kong vs. Tara should be a good match, I’m so happy that Lacey is getting a chance to continue the family tradition. I forgot to mention the earlier match with Traci vs. Alissa Flash (as far as I know no relation to Flash Funk). Speaking of happy I am so glad that the former Cheerleader Melissa/Raisha Saeed is getting a chance to shine. After a couple of more uneventful promos we go to Kurt, (btw how much money do you think they threw at Kurt for that pro-Hogan promo?). Kurt talks about Desmond, he is gold on the mic as always, but then Desmond had to talk and ruin the whole thing, after some trickery and a run in we had a good set up for there match at Turning Point, his mic skills aside we know from ROH that Des can wrestle and Kurt’s ability has been well documented so it should be a fun match.
Next we have an X-Division showcase, which should be very enjoyable, these guys have so much talent, unfortunately I had to use my mute button has our “guest host” was annoying me. Where did Amazing Red come from and are there more of him, after some great high spots from Red and MMG, we get the pin from the ‘Guns, I am usually not a big fan of the high spot only matches but this one got it’ s point across. Great Des is on the mic again; thank goodness I still have it on mute. We return with Rhino and Team 3D saying how the younger talent is keeping them down……wait I’ve heard this before…give me a minute….what do they say about history and repeats, anyway out come Morgan and SuperMex with there partner…The Pope? Ok, I like that, but what I don’t like is these guys going from main event to facing Rhino and Team 3D, hopefully this is only a side step for these guys. Next match involves Beer Money vs. World Elite’s British Invasion, when I first saw Beer Money team up I didn’t think they would last but to my surprise they seem to gel well and have become a great team, you know for it’s faults TNA does know how to do tag team wrestling (and women’s wrestling), great match, god I miss good tag team wrestling.
Finally the main event, which I think the announcers forgot about because Hulk Hogan is coming, Hulk Hogan is coming, what do you think about Hulk Hogan is coming? AJ styles vs. “I ate” Somoa Joe, seriously what is he wearing? I digress good match that seemed kind of rushed (maybe a little less Super Dave & Hogan brown nosing would have fixed that) of course the third component of Turning Point’s main event comes out, calamity ensues and Joe gets the choke out victory (these guys are the main event right?) Turning Point should be interesting to some degree I’m glad Daniels is getting pushed again (at least for now) even though this main event kind of seemed I don’t know put together in a hurry, that said with the rich history of these three wrestlers you really don’t need a lot of lead time, Personally I think it’s Dixie’s half baked way of telling these guys “see your still our #1 go to guys, don’t worry about Hogan, trust me”. Things are changing in TNA, the effort is being set forth, good or bad the only way to find out is to keep watching, so until next time…..let’s watch
